Treo 650 User Review
I have had my Treo for about four months now and I thought that I would finally write a review of the phone.
In general, I have been pleased with the Treo. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the Treo about a 7. I specifically decided to buy the older Treo 650 as it was dirt cheap and has a proven pool of applications and support available.
The Treo runs on the Palm OS. While this OS is incredible light on disk space, it is also incredible light on features and compatibility. That's where the huge amount of supported applications comes into play. However - I do not like that I can not install Flash or play treaming video over the (slow) web connection. I also miss that Palm seems completely unwilling to add wifi support to any of its smartphones. The Treo 650 Operating System is very stable and does not crash often. Applications are very easy to add to the phone using the Quick Install application and there are tons of freeware applications available for the Treo.
The overall phone functionality of the Treo 650 is very good. The service reception in some areas seems to be better on normal phones. I wonder if the Treo does not have the best reception even if the service signal is strong enough? The ringtone volume is very loud and the vibrate feature is awesome to feel when wearing the Treo in a on my belt in its leather case. The bluetooth works very well for voice calls (I highly recommend a Sony Ericcson HBH-608 headset). Dialing a number on the Treo is a bit cumbersome at times because the you either have to use the touchscreen or the very small number keys on the QWERTY keyboard (it is easier to dial a number on a Blackberry keyboard in my opinion). The keyboard buttons could be a notch bigger.
All in all, I am very pleased with the Treo. It offers great PDA functionality combined with a very good phone. The drawbacks however keep me from giving it a 10 out of 10 ranking. If you want to spend more money, there are certainly newer phones out there that easily beat the Treo to the ground.
