Software update – Motorola Q

Motorola has released a software update for Verizon Wireless Q owners. The MOTO Q software update is focused on enabling enhanced enterprise functionality and expanded connectivity. The new, freely available Motorola Q software update expands the Motorola Q’s push e-mail capabilities by adding Microsoft MSFP (Message and Security Feature Pack). A big feature addition is the availability of dial-up-networking (DUN) support through Bluetooth or USB.

During the software update, all content on the phone, including music, pictures, ringtones, and screensavers, will be deleted. A user will need to reload all your content after the update has been completed. The time to perform the software update typically takes 30 – 45 minutes. The phone cannot receive or make calls during the software update process (including emergency calls).

The Motorola Q is currently available in the US exclusively through Verizon Wireless. The update is available here.

The update on our own test Motorola Q went fine and smooth. The biggest problem was pulling the old data off the phone and restoring it. If attempting to upgrade an Active Sync should be done and verified before applying the upgrade. It took us about an hour for the upgrade and restore of our data. Even if the 3rd party storage was not supposed to be erased during the upgrade, we pulled the card as a precaution.
