New Review: Sony Ericsson W600i Cell Phone Review

We got our hands on the new Sony Ericsson W600i cell phone and took it for a 'test drive'. Here is our review. The first impression: this is a very cool looking cell phone. We especially liked the snazzy orange color. The phone did feel a little bit on the heavy side with the weight of 120 grams. In general 120 grams is a lightweight, but compared to the overall breed of newer phones it is a little more heavy.

The Sony Ericsson W600i cell phone supports the following standards: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and EDGE high-speed data transfers. The reception was pretty good for us - even in areas where some other phones had shown less than average reception. The problem seemed to have some minor reception problems inside certain buildings with a lot of steel around. The battery talk time is rated at 6 hours, but real life experience showed rather 4-5 hours as the average. Standby battery time is rated to be 200 hours. This value seemed to be a better match. Overall we consider a 5 hour battery talk time a good value and comparable to many other phones in the market.

The phone is equipped with Bluetooth and also features an infrared port. The camera also has a 1.3 mega pixel camera built-in which took good pictures. We have seen other phones with similar camera specs doing a less than satisfying job. The 1.8″ screen of the Sony Ericsson W600i cell phone shows the pictures and wallpapers in very good resolution.

The Sony Ericsson W600i cell phone supports MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MIDI, WAV among other file formats. MP3s recorded up to 192kbps are supported. A FM radio tuner is also included. The only concern for the traveler is that the storage of 128 MB cannot be expanded. The music file capabilities are therefore limited to a certain degree. If you’re looking for a real "MUSIC - PHONE", this is not your best choice. But if you want a solid cell phone with some great features, the Sony Ericsson W600i is a very good choice.
